Romania Day Fourteen

Another day off and Cristian had organised a visit to a vineyard for us in the afternoon with a meal to follow. It was a short minibus ride away and we were picked up at 1230. As usual, there was a mix up in communication and the owners of the vineyard were not expecting us until 3 o’clock so were hanging around at the shop / restaurant for an hour while they got everything ready.

At last Cristian and some of his family turned up and we started our visit with a lunch of cold meats and various beverages. The tour followed and the owner took us to his barrel store in the hills. He makes around 50,000 litres of wine a year but only sells domestically as he is not a big enough producer to export. After sampling some of his wine and being entertained by a violin and squeeze box duo playing some traditional Romanian music we went back to the restaurant for more food. Unfortunately we had to return to our houses early because Serena had made soup for us all for our evening meal otherwise we would have stayed there until late in the evening.
