Romania Day Twelve

Normal routine was followed with breakfast and then school. We were all a little subdued and apprehensive after the events of Wednesday evening but after a short while everybody once again gelled and got on with the job of entertaining the children, which is the reason we are here.

A temporary core committee was formed; Joe, Honor, Ronnie, Annette, Jose and Bryan, to iron out the details for the sports day on Friday. We thought this would be a more manageable idea than having an Irish Parliament of everybody talking together. Hot dogs were prepared for lunch by Ronnie, Mary and Franny was a great success.

We had been invited to lunch by George, the husband of the previous head teacher. He took us to his “hunting lodge” by the church for a sumptuous spread of cold meats, sheep’s milk cheese, sliced peppers, and strips of fat. This was followed by a venison stew, beer, water and home-made wine. In the evening the core committee held a meeting and organised the events for sports day.
