Refugee Appeal Update

Thank you so much for all the donations (Refugee Appeal ) that you have been so kind in giving, we have been overwhelmed by your generosity. We have decided to name the group SHARE: Support in Huyton for Asylum seekers and REfugees.

Unfortunately, our original vision of sponsoring a family from Syria proved to be untenable given the immigration restrictions in place. We are continuing to work closely with the council drafting plans of how to best support the asylum seekers and refugees when they arrive in Knowsley. In May, we will be hosting an ‘International Evening’ - a social occasion which will enable us to welcome, meet and share with people from other cultures and countries. At the moment we are in consultation with Asylum Link to find out the best ways to support them in the invaluable work they do in Liverpool. This week £500 of your money has been used to purchase much needed sleeping bags for the camps in Calais and Dunkirk. We are also hoping to take a van of aid directly to the camps in Calais at the end of February. To this end we are appealing for donations of tinned and non-perishable food, winter clothing for men, sleeping bags, wind up torches and lanterns. A list of appropriate items is provided below. We will also need volunteers to help sort and pack donated items. If you are interested in being part of the Calais Appeal or have access to a van that can be used please contact the parish house,(0151-4893085) Fr. Anton, Dave Monaghan or Margaret Roche.
