Mary's Meals Backpack Appeal

It is that time of year again when we will shortly start collecting
for Mary's Meal's. Items can be donated over the summer holidays
at church. (Fr Anton will confirm dates in the newsletter)

This is the fourth year our parish has participated and to date we have sent over 250 completed backpacks (not to mention all the extra donations of toiletries/clothes/stationery). That is the equivalent of every child in one of our primary schools receiving a back pack which is a remarkable achievement.
As a consequence of our generosity we have enabled and encouraged all of those children to enter education in the hope they will have a brighter future, something all children deserve regardless of where they live. Our small act of kindness has made such a difference to those children let us not forget that very often our donations are the only gift these children will receive. A full information sheet of the items required and instructions will be available at the back of church shortly.

Please only donate the items requested on the list as any other items may be removed at the sorting centre to avoid difficulties at customs and also when the bags are distributed in the villages. It is important that all the children receive the same. Due to the success of our campaign I will be looking for volunteers nearer the time to help with the sorting out of the donated items. If you are able to complete a backpack that is fantastic but don't forget any donated items on the list are very much appreciated as well. Please remember to keep hold of old school summer uniforms as these are ideal. If you are going to donate clothes it would be really helpful if you could put them in a carrier bag with the age and boy/girl written on.
